Berchtesgaden, Germany

High atop the Bavarian Alps in Germany still stands Adolf Hitler's Kehlsteinhaus,
also known as the "Eagle's Nest", which was captured by
the US 101st Airborne Division from Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
This photo, found on good old Wikipedia, is said to have been taken in 1945
and shows both the entrance below and Hitler's retreat at the top.
A tunnel and a brass elevator run through the rock connecting the two.
Here is the entrance now.
You can imagine how creepy it was to walk through that tunnel and ride that lift
considering those who used it before us.
And here is our shot of the Eagle's Nest today.
It is something that this place still stands in its original state,
spared from Allied bombing during and after the war.
